Cross Modal Therapies for 'Both Sides' of the Brain

Cross modal therapy is a creative-cognitive approach designed to activate and link the creative, intuitive, functions of the brain with the verbal processes. This therapeutic approach connects memories, sensations, and imagery stored in the emotional and sensory systems with the cognitive brain's capacity to organize and assign meaning and purpose.

The premise of this work is supported by research in neuroscience that strongly indicates that the 'whole-brain' must be engaged in healing developmental  trauma. This cross modal process for problem-solving refers to crossing over the false boundaries between the musical, visual,  kinesthetic  and verbal intelligences.

The mission of this therapeutic process is to help individuals re-discover their innate creativity which empowers and overcomes the problems associated with helplessness, guilt, shame, and co-dependence. It is the mission of this approach to overcome and transform old maladaptive patterns of behavior, thought and emotions using the whole brain in the creative arts process.

Cross modal creativity seeks to provide a creative dialogue between the images, sensations, and emotions of traumatic experiences. These expressive techniques invite the client to engage his creative brain and to let go of self-destructive patterns of behavior that once served as coping mechanisms for basic survival.
The combined use of musical, visual, and gestural exercises for problem solving will overwhelm and override old destructive thinking patterns. Then the  non-verbal material can be linked to new stories that promote a healthy and hopeful sense of SELF necessary for therapeutic change.
